The Cackling Goose Market

One of the most intriguing shopping destinations is The Cackling Goose Market at 38 York Street in Downtown Sackville, N.B. A unique health food/gift shop housed in one of the town’s vintage homes, this wonderful shop is a cornucopia of delightful offerings for the discriminating shopper on the lookout for that special, one-of-a-kind items. Not only does The Cackling Goose Market carry a terrific range of health food and organic foodstuffs such as grains, flours, flaxseed, goji berry drinks, and mixed fruit, but they have a complete line of quality cheeses, free trade coffees, exotic teas, beans and lentils, dietary supplements, chutneys and salsa made locally, bunches of garlic grown in Dorchester, bakery ingredients, and 117 kinds of spices. “We have over 3700 different items at our market,” says owner Mark Istvanffy, “and we can often fill special orders for our customers.”

The Cackling Goose Market is the perfect place at which to purchase gift items as well. In fact, their array of gift items is truly astounding! There are authentic sushi sets from Japan, silk purses and scarves from Thailand, genuine gemstone and silver jewellery from India, unique paper lanterns, and jewelled wall hangings. Beautifully decorated for the season, at The Cackling Goose Market East meets West at the Christmas tree hung with origami ornaments! The Cackling Goose Market is a treat to visit and a joy to experience!

The Cackling Goose Market is owned and operated by Amanda Feindel and Mark Istvanffy. Both well-travelled, the couple, in fact, met a Mount Allison University before moving on to the University of Alberta, and then on to Japan where Amanda was part of an exchange program and Mark went to teach English. While in the Far East, Amanda and Mark took the opportunity to travel to India, Thailand, and Cambodia. On their return to New Brunswick, they eventually chose to settle in the quaint Town of Dorchester, giving in to an entrepreneurial bent. Now, as busy parents to two young children, they have developed a trading company called Farther East through which they import exotic items from sources they know firsthand. In so doing, not only are they able to be hands-on parents to their children, but they can ensure the quality of items they choose to carry in their market.

The Cackling Goose Market has become a vital addition to the retail profile of the Town of Sackville due in no small part to the world experience and hard work of Amanda and Mark. This market has attracted a loyal customer base drawn to its eclectic atmosphere, organic foodstuffs, unique gifts, homemade condiments, aromatic cheeses, wonderful fresh, hot, free trade coffee, and friendly service. In the summer months, it’s a great place for a leisurely linger on its front patio.
