Eileen Dauphinee: Artist and Author

Eileen Dauphinee is a remarkable woman. An artist with unique gifts, Eileen expresses her vision through an unusual medium – the computer. A talented artist in graphic art, and recently through the written word, Eileen is both a visual artist and an author. Look for her series of all-occasion greeting cards, prints, magnets, and books at the Marché Moncton Market where she can be found most Saturdays. Each of the works of art showcases slices of her life that we can all relate to – relationships, special occasions, or even landscapes around the Maritimes we are all familiar with seen through the special lens of a special individual.

Recently, Eileen created a series of beautiful books featuring her children as her inspiration, but with universal themes and messages that can appeal to every child. A special book on a “Red Hatter” has had great appeal to the local Red Hat Societies, and the Atlantic District Co-ordinator of Muscular Dystrophy Canada, has asked Eileen to write a book for the Muscular Dystrophy Hop 2008 Campaign. Upon approval by the board, Eileen should see 400 to 700 books printed, some of which are expected to be translated into French, thus creating a widespread appeal in both official languages.
Eileen’s interest in computer art grew from an interactive multimedia authoring course she took through MacKenzie College, from which she graduated with a diploma in 2000. Unable to find a job in her field, she decided to create her own career by taking inspiration from her own surroundings and experiences. Here’s Eileen in her own words:
Growing up in Salmon Beach, across the Chaleur Bay has turned me into a nature lover. I was fortunate to comb the beach or walk for miles in the woods as a child. I thought I was in paradise. A dreamer, a nature lover, a mother of two, and now in a wheelchair, has brought me to the point of wanting to express myself through art. My drawings, I do on computer, have given me the opportunity to do so. I use everyday events and try to tell a story in each picture and hope to bring pleasure to others.

A Taste of Taiwan

January is the perfect month to lay back and relax after the hectic holiday season. Saturdays are a great time to visit the local farmers markets and treat yourself to a warm, delicious and hearty brunch from local vendors at the market. One of my favourite stops is at the Wok n’ Rolls kiosk at the Marché Moncton Market which serves original Taiwanese cuisine. Here one can choose from a tempting and sumptuous menu of fried noodles, spring rolls, fried rice, rice cakes, egg rolls, crispy fried wantons, and pot stickers, all served up onsite with an array of exotic, spicy sauces. Can’t choose? Want to sample a little of each item? Pick up a combo platter to enjoy a nibble at a time as you leisurely tour the market. How about something fresh n’ fruity? Wok n’ Rolls also has tasty and crispy waffles smothered in an assortment of freshly chopped fruit with a sprinkle of powdered sugar – it’s a terrific treat for all the senses, especially the taste buds!
Wok n’ Rolls is run by Ming-Huei Kao and Wai-Ho Lo. Originally from Taiwan, Republic of China, Ming-Huei Kao shares the foods of her homeland with scores of patrons each week at the market and her busy kiosk can attest to the immense popularity of her warm and wonderful offerings. In the mood for a little R and R? Come down to the market on Saturday and enjoy a truly delectable delight!

New Year's Greetings!

Happy New Year to all market-goers! 2007 promises to be a banner year for area farmers markets as our three communities of Riverview, Moncton, and Dieppe continue to prosper and thrive. A steady growth in both the business and residential sections of these communities have been the driving force behind increased activity amongst vendors and patrons at the local market level. The Dieppe Farmers Market, nestled in the heart of the vibrant new downtown complex, continues to attract scores of attendees each Saturday, and the Marché Moncton Market, with a history dating back almost 100 years, continues to forge ahead into a bright future. With a "welcome back" to vendors once separated into the Farmers Market Co-op a few years ago, this long-awaited reunion and amalgamation of these hitherto sparring entities now offers greater variety to patrons, equal opportunity to vendors, and a competitive market atmosphere in one of the area’s most successful market venues. Area residents can look forward to a new year of wonderful goods, friendly folk, and a community spirit that is unique to our local farmers markets. Have a safe and happy new year, and see you at the market!
