Fantastic Folk Art by Paul McFadden
One of the most compelling displays of Folk Art in our region comes to us courtesy of Paul McFadden whose extraordinary Folk Art pieces can be seen weekly at the Marché Moncton Market. Bright, crisp, and colourful, Paul McFadden’s vision truly encapsulates everyday life in the Maritimes. Detailed vignettes of rural Canadiana carefully assembled to re-create harbour views, seascapes, fishing boats, and even the local hockey rink show the intricate workings of an intelligent and observant mind coupled with the skill of an artisan. Many pieces are interactive, with moveable pieces and areas that light up.
A homespun, simple way of life is reflected in Paul’s pieces, including small ornaments, wall-hung pieces, and utilitarian pieces such as garden benches, stools, and small corner tables. His large lobster or sunflower bench is a great accent for the deck or the garden and is sure to be a conversation piece of the first order!A lifelong resident of Point du Chéne, Paul worked for many years for Marine Atlantic. When he was injured on the job, he turned to folk art as both a therapeutic pastime and as a career. He sold his first piece at a local yard sale and that initial success lit the spark of entrepreneurship, and the rest is history! Paul’s work will be featured on a television show on the Bravo channel this spring. Watch for it or visit Paul’s website at http://www.picatssoprints.com/ where all of his work is showcased. Got a special order? Contact Paul at paul@picatssoprints.com, phone 1-506-532-9829 or toll free in Canada and the U.S. at 1-877-422-8776, or drop by the market on Saturdays and enjoy a visit with Paul at one of the most colourful booths at the Farmers Market! Enjoy!
